The course will cover

• Introduction to Developmental Biology and animal models
• Drosophila as a model system for human diseases, with special focus on cancer, wound healing and immune system, infections and behavioural diseases
• The course will give the opportunity to meet other African researchers as well as an international body of faculty and establish collaborative links.

The course is open to researchers from institutions in Africa, with preference to those who have recently established their own research group.

In 2014, Drosophila in Biomedical Research is mutating into

Building an African Biomedical Research Community using Drosophila

and it is still a workshop made in Uganda.

This blog will be changing in the next few days to accommodate the new information. Everything about the 2013 workshop can still be found on the Drosophila Africa site.

Our aspect might change but the core is still the same: bringing the affordable and powerful Drosophila to the scientific community of Africa to facilitate advances in basic and applied sciences leading to the improvement of human lives.

Just a few hours before the end of the workshop we received more great news. The World Academy of Science (TWAS) has awarded us 2000 American Dollars which allow us to refund a good part of the travel expenses of the students that came from abroad.

When we are just a few hours from the beginning of the workshop we have received great news. The Cambridge-Africa Alborada Research Fund has awarded us 5000 British Pounds which allow us to cover a big portion of the expenses and slash the fee down to $100.
